Obesity is a disease that affects 700 million people worldwide and about 1/4 of the Brazilian population. Bariatric and metabolic surgery represent the most effective treatment for severely obese patients. Due to its complexity in aspects related to the understanding of the disease, its clinical management and procedures, bariatric and metabolic surgery has become an area of expertise recognized by the AMB for digestive and general surgeons
