Principles of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery

Obesity is a disease that affects 700 million people worldwide and about 1/4 of the Brazilian population. Bariatric and metabolic surgery represents the most effective treatment for patients with severe obesity. Due to its complexity in aspects related to understanding the disease, its clinical management and procedures, bariatric and metabolic surgery has become an Area of Practice recognized by the AMB for digestive or general surgeons.

Qualification and certification in this area require specific training. In this course, taught by experienced surgeons, participants will learn contemporary concepts about obesity, indications, preparation, surgical techniques and post-operative patient monitoring. In addition, they will be taught the basic principles of surgical technique, which are fundamental for bariatric surgeons.”
