The Hospital Medicine course trains doctors to comprehensively manage the care of hospitalized patients. It is a completely practical program, based on daily care, participation in clinic visits and meetings, and discussion of clinical cases.
Hospitalist Medicine (HM) improves patient care, ensures greater satisfaction for family members and increases interaction between medical and multidisciplinary health teams. It originated in the late 1990s and has gained momentum in recent years.
Because they experience the day-to-day life of the ward, hospitalists have in-depth knowledge of the patient, know how to communicate with the family and teams, and are trained in the management of complex cases, pre- and post-operative care, and palliative care. In addition, they help transfer the patient to another level of care, whether it be outpatient, specialized services, backup hospitals, hospice, or home care.
During the training, the doctor learns in practice, over a period of 7 months, from leading specialists at the Central Institute of HCFMUSP, the largest hospital complex in Latin America. It is the right choice for those who wish to make a difference in the field of Hospital Medicine.
