The Multiprofessional Specialization in Palliative Care in Oncology trains healthcare professionals to provide assistance to cancer patients with life-threatening conditions and suffering related to the progression of the disease, including, but not limited to, end-of-life care.
Palliative Care seeks to improve the quality of life of patients and offer support to families facing the daily challenges associated with the process of serious illness and the imminent possibility of death.
Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that more than 56.8 million people require palliative care, yet only one in 10 of these individuals receives this type of assistance. It is estimated that the need for palliative care will almost double by 2060.
Thus, the course is extremely important given the scenario of population aging and the increasing number of cancer cases in Brazil and worldwide. Another important aspect concerns the implementation of the National Palliative Care Policy (Ordinance GM/MS No. 3,681, of May 7, 2024), whose main objectives are to expand and improve the practice throughout the country.
The course offers over 500 hours of excellent content across various disciplines, including Fundamentals of Palliative Care, Implementation of a Palliative Care Team, Management of Cancer Pain and Other Symptoms, and Multidisciplinary Practice, among others. In addition to theoretical knowledge, students also gain valuable practical experience with a 60-hour internship at the renowned São Paulo State Cancer Institute (ICESP).
At the end of the specialization, the professional will be able to provide Palliative Care assistance in a safe, humanized manner, based on the best scientific evidence.
