Cell culture began at the beginning of the 20th century, with the aim of studying the behavior of animal cells outside the organism, in a controlled environment, and comprises a set of techniques that allow cells and tissues to be maintained in vitro, preserving their physiological, biochemical and genetic properties as much as possible.
Nowadays, cell culture is not limited to studying the behavior of tissues and cells. Its use extends to medicine, as it plays an important role in the treatment of various diseases.
Classes take place at the Cellular, Genetic and Molecular Nephrology Laboratory (LIM 29) at the USP School of Medicine.
