Ultrasound in Emergency and ICU

Ultrasound has been increasingly used by non-radiologists. It is currently considered the new stethoscope: an innovative tool capable of improving medical care. Its importance can be seen in the incorporation of this method as part of the physical examination.

Critically ill patients, especially in the emergency room and intensive care unit, benefit from a rapid and objective diagnostic approach, which allows for more accurate decision-making. Ultrasound plays a crucial role in this context. Among the method's main advantages are its non-invasive nature, the absence of radiation, and, in many cases, easier and faster access.

Studies show that ultrasound courses are among the most sought-after for doctors who care for critically ill patients, usually in the Emergency Room or ICU.

The need to ensure adequate training for doctors culminated in the creation of this course by Prof. Dr. Edivaldo Utiyama and Dr. Carlos Augusto Menegozzo, from the General Surgery and Trauma Department at HCFMUSP.
