Specialization in Physiotherapy in Gerontology
The Specialization in Physiotherapy in Gerontology aims to qualify physiotherapists to excel in the care of the elderly. Developed by specialists from the Physiotherapy Division of the HCFMUSP Central Institute, the course combines theory in the prevention and minimization of the effects of the aging process on individuals, as well as addressing the deficiencies and disabilities already present in the geriatric population.
According to IBGE estimates, by 2030, the number of elderly people in Brazil will surpass, for the first time, the number of children and adolescents aged 0 to 14 years. The data presents an important challenge in the care of this population, and health professionals need to be increasingly prepared for this reality.
The postgraduate course in Physiotherapy in Gerontology at HCFMUSP is recognized by COFFITO and has the largest practical workload in the market. In it, physiotherapists will gain experience in inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and geriatric day hospitals with the necessary foundation to develop prevention and rehabilitation programs for the elderly.
