2026 Hands-on Course: Microsurgical Anatomy of the Cerebral Sulci, Gyri, Ventricles, Brainstem, Cerebellum, and Fouth Ventricle Applied to Microneurosurgery
This course aims to provide an updated overview on the microsurgical anatomy of the brain, brainstem, and cerebellum with emphasis on its application in microneurosurgery.
There will be 28 participants, divided into 14 pairs occupying 14 workstations (1 pair per workstation); each workstation will have 1 table microscope, a lamp with a magnifying glass and microinstruments for dissection. Each pair will have 1 brain and 3 cerebellums with brainstem throughout the course. The first stage of the course will consist of dissecting the superficial and deep structures of a brain fixed in the usual way, starting from the lateral surface, followed by dissection of the same structures from the basal surface and finally dissection from the medial surface, so that the same structures are seen from 3 different perspectives. The second stage of the course will consist of dissecting the brainstem and the cerebellum from its petrosal surface, followed by dissection from its tentorial surface, and finally dissection from the suboccipital surface.
Before each step of the dissection, one instructor will give a brief theoretical lecture (3D or 2D) and perform a demonstrative dissection. During the dissection, individual guidance will be given to participants at the stations (there will be 9 instructors on the course).
Throughout the course, clinical cases and respective videos of surgeries will be shown to exemplify the practical application of the anatomy being studied.
