Physiotherapy Specialization in Gerontology

The Specialization in Physiotherapy in Gerontology aims to qualify physiotherapists to provide excellent care for the elderly. Developed by specialists from the Physiotherapy Division of the Central Institute of HCFMUSP, the course combines theory with the prevention and minimization of the effects of the aging process on individuals, in addition to addressing deficiencies and disabilities already present in the geriatric population.

According to estimates by the IBGE, in 2030, the number of elderly people in Brazil will surpass, for the first time, the number of children and adolescents aged 0 to 14. The data brings an important challenge in the care of this population and health professionals need to be increasingly prepared for this reality.

The postgraduate course in Physiotherapy in Gerontology at HCFMUSP is recognized by COFFITO and has the largest practical workload on the market. In this course, physiotherapists will gain experience in inpatient units, outpatient clinics and geriatric day hospitals with the necessary foundation to develop prevention and rehabilitation programs for the elderly.
