Physiotherapy Specialization in Gerontology

The Gerontology Physiotherapy Specialization program aims to qualify physiotherapists to provide excellent care for the elderly. Developed by specialists from the Physiotherapy Division of the Central Institute of HCFMUSP, the program combines theory with the prevention and minimization of the effects of the aging process on individuals, in addition to addressing existing disabilities and impairments in the geriatric population.

According to IBGE estimates, by 2030, the number of elderly people in Brazil will surpass, for the first time, the number of children and adolescents aged 0 to 14. This data presents a significant challenge in caring for this population, and healthcare professionals need to be increasingly prepared for this reality.

The HCFMUSP Gerontology Physiotherapy postgraduate program is recognized by COFFITO and offers the largest practical workload in the market. In this program, physiotherapists will gain experience in inpatient, outpatient, and geriatric day hospital settings, providing the necessary foundation for developing prevention and rehabilitation programs for the elderly.
