Zero Viral Load - Management of HIV/AIDS Infection
The Zero Viral Load – Management of HIV/AIDS Infection course shares the successful strategy implemented in the outpatient clinic that serves people with HIV in the dermatology department of HCFMUSP.
The outpatient clinic began in the mid-1980s, initiated by Professor Alberto Duarte, when it received the country's first HIV cases. Currently, the unit is coordinated by Professor Jorge Casseb, an infectious disease specialist and associate professor in the Department of Dermatology at FMUSP.
Taught by a multidisciplinary team with 30 years of clinical experience, the course provides students with basic knowledge of the virus, epidemiology, and diagnosis, as well as practical management of the various clinical aspects of HIV/AIDS infection. All this to provide the best outpatient, emergency, and inpatient care.
Currently, 500 people living with HIV (PLHIV) are undergoing regular monitoring. Of these, 98.5% have an undetectable viral load.
