ATLS - Instructors

The ATLS Instructor course is aimed at doctors, who have already completed the basic ATLS Student Course (ATLS students) and were identified as a “potential instructor” during their participation.
The focus is on preparing the professional to teach the ATLS Student course - that is, for an instructor

The course will last 1 day and a half, totaling 16 hours of practice.

ATTENTION

Resident general surgery students must complete the term of commitment upon registration. Access the term here.

It will be necessary for the student to prepare for the course as follows:

1. Review the ATLS® Student Handbook
   - Bring your copy (there will be no extra copies on the day
).
2. Study Section 3 — Chapter 1 (Teaching ATLS®)
   - Located in the Administration and Faculty Guide.
3. Know the course schedule
   - Identify your attributions and responsibilities

4. Prepare your micro teaching session (8 min)
   - Interactive scenario, with beginning, progression and conclusion.
   - Use stimulus questions and follow the providers' course style.
   - Features such as white board and flip chart will be available.
5. Review your assigned skill station
   - Study the corresponding guide.
   - Drive the station using the 5-step method for teaching skills

6. Prepare your initial assessment session
   - Learn about the assigned patient scenario.
   - Demonstrate the operation of the station in accordance with the ATLS® standard.
   - Use the assessment form as a guide for discussion with students.
