4th Hands-on Course Microsurgical anatomy of the grooves, gyri, ventricles and fiber dissection applied to cir. of glioma, aneurysm, AVM and epilepsy

The course aims to provide an update on the microsurgical anatomy of the brain, brain stem and cerebellum with an emphasis on its application to microneurosurgery.

There are 28 participants, distributed in 14 pairs occupying 14 workstations (1 double per station); each workstation will have a desk microscope, lamp with magnifying glass and microinstruments for dissection. Each pair will have 2 brains fixed throughout the course. The first stage of the course will consist of dissection of the superficial and deep structures of a normally fixed brain, starting with the lateral surface, followed by the dissection of the same structures by the basal surface and finally dissection by the medial surface, so that the same structures are viewed from 3 different perspectives. The second stage of the course will consist of dissection of the white fibers of the brain through the lateral and medial surfaces

Each stage of the dissection will be preceded by a brief theoretical lecture (3D or 2D) and demonstrative dissection by the instructor. During the dissection, participants will have individualized guidance at the stations (there will be 9 instructors in

Throughout the course, clinical cases and respective videos of the surgeries will be demonstrated, which will exemplify the practical application of the anatomy being studied.

1. We follow the principles of microneuroanatomy and microneurosurgery established by professors Albert L. Rhoton Jr., Evandro de Oliveira and M. Gazi Yasargil.
2. This course has been improved since its inception in 1994 at the Microneuroanatomy Laboratory of the Hospital Benedicência Portuguesa in São Paulo (Prof. Evandro de Oliveira), adapting to new technologies and surgical strategies.
3. All instructors were fellows of Prof. Albert L. Rhoton Jr., and/or Prof. Evandro de Oliveira, and/or Prof. Yasargil.
4. We have more time for dissection by participants, reducing the duration of theoretical classes.
5. This course is offered by the same team in other countries around the world (Taiwan, China, Portugal, USA), but the investment paid by the participants is much lower in Brazil.
6. Course participants will be informed of the future activities of the International Rhoton Society, the Microsurgical Anatomy Committee of the World Federation of Neurological Societies, and the Neurosurgery Division of the Hospital das Clínicas of the FMUSP.
